1. Personal data we process
- Account data: your user ID, the email address and name you share when you sign in with Apple or Google, and your sign-in method. If you choose to hide your email when signing in with Apple, we receive a relay address instead.
- Profile and preferences: display name, username, profile picture, the crafts and techniques you choose, your measurement units, and your time zone.
- Your activity in Ease: patterns you like, collections, designers you follow, saved searches, reading positions in patterns, and the projects you create, including their notes, progress and photos.
- Content you publish: comments, and project photos you choose to share with other users.
- Reports and moderation: reports you make about comments, and moderation decisions concerning your account.
- Privacy choices: whether you allow analytics and marketing, and when you made those choices.
- Notifications: your device's push notification token, if you allow notifications.
- Purchases: when memberships are available, your membership status and the store transaction details we receive from Apple or Google. We never receive your payment card details.
- Technical and diagnostic data: app version, device model, operating system, error reports and performance data.
- Designers and editors: if you author patterns, the pattern files and information you upload, and your designer profile.
Patterns you download are stored on your own device, not on our servers.
2. Why we process it, and our legal bases
- To create and run your account, sign you in, and provide Ease: browsing, reading and saving patterns, projects, collections, follows and comments. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
- To keep Ease secure, prevent abuse, moderate public content, fix errors and keep the service working. Legal basis: our legitimate interests.
- To understand how Ease is used and improve it with analytics events, only if you allow analytics. Legal basis: consent.
- To send you marketing messages, only if you allow marketing. Legal basis: consent.
- To send push notifications you have allowed on your device. Legal basis: consent through your device settings, and our legitimate interest in service messages.
- To provide memberships and handle purchases, when available. Legal basis: performance of a contract, and legal obligations such as bookkeeping.
- To comply with the law and to establish or defend legal claims. Legal basis: legal obligation and our legitimate interests.
You can change your analytics and marketing choices at any time under Profile in the app. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that took place before.
3. Where the data comes from
- From you, when you sign in, edit your profile, use Ease, publish content or contact us.
- From Apple or Google, when you sign in with them.
- From your device and our service logs, automatically as you use Ease.
- From Apple or Google, when you buy a membership.
4. Information from Sign in with Google and Sign in with Apple
When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from your Google account, through our sign-in provider Clerk. When you sign in with Apple, we receive your name and email address, or a private relay address if you choose to hide your email.
- We use this information only to create your Ease account, sign you in, and show your name and picture in your profile.
- We do not ask for access to any other data in your Google or Apple account, such as your contacts, files or calendar.
- We do not sell this information, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone other than the service providers listed below, who process it on our behalf.
- It is stored with the rest of your account data and deleted when you delete your account.
Ease's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
5. Who processes data for us
We do not sell your personal data. We use these service providers, who process personal data on our behalf:
- Clerk for sign-in and account management.
- Convex for our backend and database, hosted in the EU.
- Braze for push notifications, messaging, and analytics if you allow it, hosted in the EU.
- Sentry for error reporting and performance monitoring, hosted in the EU.
- RevenueCat for managing memberships bought through the App Store or Google Play, once memberships are available.
- Expo for delivering app updates.
- Vercel for hosting our website and web app.
- Anthropic for reading pattern files to pre-fill pattern details, for designers and editors who use that feature.
- Apple and Google for sign-in, notifications and app store purchases. They are independent controllers for their own services.
We may also disclose data to authorities or courts when the law requires it, or when it is needed to protect rights.
6. Transfers outside the EU and EEA
Some of our service providers are based in the United States and may process personal data there. When data is transferred outside the EU or EEA, we rely on safeguards that the GDPR allows, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. How long we keep it
- Account, profile and activity data are kept while your account exists, and deleted when you delete your account.
- Comments are kept after you delete your account, so that conversations stay readable, but they are no longer linked to you and are shown as written by "Deleted user".
- Error reports and diagnostic data are kept for a limited period, normally no longer than 90 days.
- Push notification tokens are kept until they expire, you turn notifications off, or you delete your account.
- Purchase records are kept as long as bookkeeping law requires.
- Deleted data may remain in backups for a limited time before they are overwritten.
8. Your rights
You have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw your consent at any time.
You can delete your account in the app under Profile. See Delete your account for other ways and for what is deleted. For any other request, email support@makeease.com. We may ask you to confirm your identity before we act on a request.
If you believe we process your data unlawfully, you can lodge a complaint with the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi).
9. Public content
Your display name, profile picture, comments, and any project photos you choose to share are visible to other Ease users. Your collections, likes, purchases and private projects are not.
10. Age
Ease is intended for people aged 18 or over.
11. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when Ease changes, and when the final version replaces this preliminary one. We will tell you in the app about significant changes.
